About Staybills

Background

The solution was created on a Manchester city centre residential scheme during October 2003 where “naked” trestles were initially utilised.

Work was stopped until a safe system of work was established between the contractor and trades contractor. The initial solution spawned the invention. The idea was fabricated and the initial prototype was safely deployed over a four month period, without any incidents and no delays waiting for scaffolders - the solution proved to be very cost effective.

The experience on site together with feedback from various safety organisations helped to create a simple to use, economical and yet safety-compliant access platform that the tradesman himself could use without the need for special tools or 3rd parties.

Patent and Trademark Protection

The Patent Office has confirmed its acceptance of the ideas and the Staybills® name was also protected by successful registration of the trademark. The STAYBILLS® system is patent protected. Trestle Guards, Loading Guards, H-Frame and Ladder Restraint© are also all copyright protected

HSE and Safety involvement

Numerous safety advisors and managers have been consulted to gain their feedback and comments. This also included two Health & Safety Executive inspectors and a representative from the Health & Safety Commission (HSC). All three safety specialists thought the concept was user-friendly and would provide a good solution, meeting current legislation including the WORK AT HEIGHT REGULATIONS 2005.

Several HSE inspectors and Safety Advisors have since stated that lives have been saved and injuries prevented when the STAYBILLS® system has been used. Some have also added that the system is methodical, easy to use and has “in-built” safety features which sets Staybills® apart from alternatives.

Current Day

The product has been further refined and tested using an independent organisation for both load testing and over-turning. The Trestle Guard mesh panels are now used in two formats – a solid and a hinged format to provide a combined toe board with mid and top rail protection which is fully meshed to prevent objects from falling. These panels are bay sized to provide ease of use and quick protection.
We now have national coverage throughout the United Kingdom, Ireland and The Channel Isles where both local and national companies have purchased or hired the product and have provided Cheshire Building Developments Limited with very positive feedback and repeat orders.
